Tulsa Financial Seminar to Cover Unexpected Financial Setbacks Affecting Oklahoma Women

Are Oklahoma women prepared to deal with financial setbacks often accompanying divorce or the death of a spouse? The topics for an upcoming women's financial seminar in Tulsa include advice from a certified public accountant on dealing with unexpected financial tragedies.

At Do It Herself: A Journey to Financial Freedom, Sept. 7, at the Radisson Hotel in Tulsa, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst Lisa M. Anderson, CPA will discuss how to deal with the financial fallout from a divorce, disability or death of a spouse. The seminar was developed by the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants to help inform Oklahoma women about financial issues.

Anderson said many women make the mistake of assuming their bank accounts and budgets will remain intact after divorce and other mishaps.

“Misinformation and misconceptions about the divorce process can be detrimental,” said Anderson. “Many have false expectations that they will be able to secure a divorce settlement allowing them to continue with their accustomed style of living. That’s not always possible.

Anderson, who is a Financial Recruiting Manager at The Rowland Group in Tulsa, said the event will help provide Tulsa-area ladies with a solid base of information and awareness if and when they find themselves in these unexpected situations.

“This seminar can provide women with the knowledge necessary to build good, stable economic futures and prevent long-term regret with all financial decisions made during divorce process, should that occur,” she said.

The conference, co-hosted by the Tulsa Chapter of the OSCPA and the American Institute of CPAs as part of a nationwide effort to promote economic education, will feature some of the most trusted financial advisors in Oklahoma speaking on topics ranging from basic budgeting and identity theft protection to starting a business and investing for the future.

Additional speakers include Glinda Bridgforth of Detroit, Mich., author of “Girl, Get Your Money Straight!” and “The Basic Money Management Workbook” and the co-author of “Girl, Make Your Money Grow!” A frequent guest on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Bridgforth will deliver the keynote speech. Her latest book, “Girl, Get Your Credit Straight!” will be available at the conference.

The Sept. 7 conference will be at the Radisson Hotel at 10918 E. 41st St. and the Oklahoma City conference will be Oct. 5 at the Clarion Meridian Convention Center at I-40 and Meridian. Both events will be from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. with door prizes throughout the day. Tickets are $10, which includes lunch. To register, visit http://www.knowwhatcounts.org/ or call the OSCPA at (800) 522-8261, ext. 3890.
