OSU Educator Wins State Award

OKLAHOMA CITY – On Saturday, The Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants named the 2009 Outstanding Accounting Educator at the annual Oklahoma Accounting Educators’ Conference at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.

Dr. Charlotte J. Wright, CPA, from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., won the award, now in its 18th year.

An educator at OSU since 1982, Wright said her teaching philosophy is "continuously evolving in order to inspire students and foster learning." She strives to help her students become "well-equipped, ethically-grounded accountants who not only understand the 'how' but the 'why' of accounting rules and requirements as well as the ramifications of their actions."

A former student described her as “An extremely caring and thoughtful educator who has made a significant contribution to the education of numerous accounting students. She placed a high level of importance on the quality of the instruction she provided in her classes and seminars.”

Wright is in her 26th year of teaching at the same university, and praise from her colleagues couldn’t be higher.

One colleague said “She is perhaps the top academic in the nation in energy accounting and has built a world-wide reputation over the last decade. When you review the breadth and quality of her work, I believe she is the most outstanding accounting faculty member at our school.”

In addition to the OAE prize, the OSCPA will give a $750 scholarship to a student from OSU in Wright's honor.

With more than 6,600 members in public practice, industry, government and education, the OSCPA is Oklahoma’s only statewide professional association of CPAs. Since 1918, the organization has continued to provide professional education, conduct quality reviews and promote and maintain high standards of integrity and competence within the accounting profession.
