| Tulsa CPAs Receive Writing Awards |
OKLAHOMA CITY — Two Tulsa certified public accountants were recognized as the Gold and Silver Pen Award winners by the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants at its Annual Members Meeting on June 12 in Tulsa, Okla. James H. Small, CPA, won the 2009 Silver Pen Award for his article, “The Business of Ethics,” published in the September/October 2008 issue of CPAFOCUS. Winden, a tax manager and principal shareholder of Gates, Winden & Associates, PC in Tulsa has served on numerous committees for OSCPA, including the Professional Ethics committee, Accounting & Auditing committee and others. He has also served as Director at Large and has been a Trustee of the Educational Foundation since 2006. Small, a controller at Drysdales, Inc. in Tulsa, has served on the OSCPA Continuing Professional Education Committee and has been a member of the Professional Ethics Committee since 2007. The editorial board of the OSCPA selects first and second place writing awards from overall member contributions to the publication for the preceding fiscal year. Articles were chosen based on readability, content, technical appeal and relevance. With more than 6,600 members in public practice, industry, government and education, the OSCPA is Oklahoma’s only statewide professional association of CPAs. Since 1918, the organization has continued to provide professional education, conduct quality reviews and promote and maintain high standards of integrity and competence within the accounting profession.
