Marcia Brixey, founder of Money Wise Women Educational Services and author of "The Money Therapist: A Woman’s Guide to Creating a Healthy Financial Life," will return to Oklahoma as keynote speaker at the annual women’s conferences, Do It Herself: A Journey to Financial Freedom, in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Brixey spent 26 years working for the Social Security Administration where she met thousands of women who experienced financial difficulties resulting from personal crisis ­– husband’s death, divorce, illness or loss of a job. Because of her experiences, she created Money Wise Women Educational Services in 2002.

"It's important for women to be proactive with their finances because the investment they make now will determine their quality of life both financially and personally in the years ahead," Brixey said. "I want participants to walk away with a few action steps they plan to accomplish within 30 days and to know that small steps lead to big results."

Created for women, by women, Do it Herself will also include classes on investing, basic budgeting, estate planning, getting out of debt, reducing taxable income, getting and keeping employment, understanding and correcting credit reports and more.

Hosted by the Tulsa Chapter of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Tulsa YWCA, Do It Herself will be Friday, Sept. 11, at the Downtown Doubletree Hotel in Tulsa and on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Clarion Meridian Convention Center. The conferences will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include lunch. Additionally, door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
