| Oklahoma CPAs Honored |
OKLAHOMA CITY — CPAs from across the state received honors at the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants Annual Members Meeting on June 11 at the Embassy Suites in Norman, Okla. Among the awards given were Distinguished CPAs, Gold and Silver Pen Awards, the Public Service Award and an induction into the Oklahoma Accounting Hall of Fame. Barbara A. Ley, CPA, was inducted as the 51st member of the Oklahoma Accounting Hall of Fame. Ley is a managing partner and shareholder with Barbara A. Ley, A Professional Corporation in Oklahoma City. Ley has been an active member of the OSCPA for more than 30 years and currently serves as vice chairman of the Oklahoma Accountancy Board. Ley was selected based on her contributions to the OSCPA and the Oklahoma accounting profession. Secret nominating committees that select AHOF inductees are comprised of three prior recipients of the award, who make recommendations concerning the member or members who should be inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame at the Annual Members Meeting. With her long history of extensive community service and volunteerism, Vicky C. Petete, CPA, was honored as the recipient of the Public Service Award. Petete is the CFO and executive vice president of Vision Bank in Ada, Okla., and has been an active OSCPA member for nearly 30 years. Petete is also on the Oklahoma Accountancy Board. Selected as the winner by the OSCPA Nominations Committee, Petete was one of three finalists. S. Neil Jay, CPA/ABV, was announced as the Gold Pen Award recipient for his article, "Guaranteed Job Security." It was published in the March/April 2010 issue of CPAFOCUS, the OSCPA's member magazine. Jay is a shareholder with Jay & Associates, PC in Tulsa, Okla Jim W. Heatherington, CPA, received the Silver Pen Award. Heatherington, a managing partner with Heatherington & Fields, CPA in Tulsa, won for his article, “Navigating the Shifting Sands of Tax Commission Opinions,” published in the January/February 2010 issue of CPAFOCUS.
The seven-member editorial board of the OSCPA selected first and second place writing awards from overall member contributions to the publication for the preceding fiscal year. Articles are chosen based on readability, content, technical appeal and relevance. Six CPAs received the Distinguished CPA Award. OSCPA chapters select their Distinguished CPAs based on criteria measuring community involvement, professionalism and activism in the CPA profession. With more than 6,600 members in public practice, industry, government and education, the OSCPA is Oklahoma's only statewide professional association of CPAs. Since 1918, the organization has continued to provide professional education, conduct quality reviews and promote and maintain high standards of integrity and competence within the accounting profession.
