From Evolve: Members give thanks

November 19, 2018

At the beginning of the month, we asked, “What are you thankful for this year?” in the members-only online forum, Evolve. Here’s what some members said:

“Thankful for our first grandchild due in April, after all these years of patient anticipation!”
~Mike Crawford, CPA

“I am grateful for passing three parts of the CPA [exam].”
~Ahmed Baqir

“I am thankful for the gift of good health, the gift of perseverance to make it through the hard times, and the gift of music, which adds so much richness to our lives.”
~Stephen Kucera

“I am thankful for many, many things. I am thankful for my family, who has put up with the time devoted to our profession over the years. I am thankful for the many friends I have made over the years in our profession and continue to maintain. I am thankful for the wonderful staff at the OSCPA who have helped guide our organization over the years that I have been involved.”
~Dick Kostboth, CPA

“Well, Mike Crawford stole my thunder: I, too, will be blessed with my first grandchild in March – a girl!”
~Henry Bickerstaff, CPA

“I am thankful for all the wonderful people, both who are in my life as professional, educational and personal contacts, who have shared their knowledge and experiences with me over the years. It has been a tremendous help and I will always be grateful to them.”
~Christine Murphy

“I am so thankful for those in our profession who invest time to mentor, hire, train and coach the next generation of accountants. East Central University recently held our fifth annual OSCPA Meet Up night this past week. This event, with the extremely gracious partnership of the Society and local employers, hosts grand opportunities for those in practice to meet those who are considering accounting as a career path. What a great opportunity for the connections to be formed! Our event received accolades from the Society, CPAs and university administrators.  But, it was the positive feedback from the students which made me most thankful for the day.”
~Randy Stone, CPA

“I am thankful for family, great health and a career that allows me the opportunities to impact the lives of others in a significant manner.  Also, I’m very grateful for our OSCPA team and their excellent assistance by guiding our organization through robust and difficult times. Last, but not least, I am thankful for our team at Compass Capital Management, LLC.  Never has a group been so fun to work with in my career.”
~Jimmy J. Williams, CPA

“I am so thankful for the blessings given by God. Most of all, his grace, mercy and love.  While thankful for my husband, kids, job, etc., these all are just the result of His, grace, mercy and love. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!”
~Shannon Lytle, CPA

“There is so much to be thankful for and while I realize that there are a variety of worldviews that each of us holds, I echo Shannon Lytle's post repeated here:  “I am so thankful for the blessings given by God, His grace, mercy, and love.  While thankful for my wife, sons, grandchildren, job, etc.; these are the blessings from the Lord. I am also reminded of a quote from Melody Beattie on gratitude that has been a source of inspiration and comfort for me:  ‘Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life; it turns what we have into enough and more, denial into acceptance, chaos into order, and confusion into clarity. The unexpected into perfect timing, problems into gifts, mistakes into important events, and failures into success. It makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.’”
