IRS Currently Continues Operations, Shutdown Contingency Plan in Place

February 02, 2026

On Friday, January 30, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released its contingency plan in response to a potential short-term federal government shutdown. Under the plan, all IRS employees will continue working, ensuring uninterrupted operations through February 7.

The contingency plan relies on funding from the Inflation Reduction Act, allowing the IRS to maintain 100% workforce coverage during this period. As a result, IRS services, processing, and support functions are expected to continue without disruption.

At this time, an extended shutdown is not anticipated. The U.S. Senate cleared an amended funding package on Friday evening, and consideration by the House of Representatives is expected early in the week of February 2.

We will continue monitoring developments closely and will share relevant updates as more information becomes available.
