AICPA Resubmits Letter Nominating Accounting for STEM Designation
August 04, 2025
The AICPA—and every state CPA society, including Oklahoma— recently sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requesting a STEM designation for accounting.
The letter requested DHS recognize accounting under the umbrella of Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) education.
Should these codes be added to the list, colleges and universities across the country could tap into a deeper pool of STEM-designated grant money to enhance their accounting programs and attract accounting talent and students from across the world.
The letter reiterates the impact of new skills accounting students are acquiring and promotes using both existing tools and developing new technology that drive change and advancement in the profession.
Along with every state CPA society, the letter was also supported by Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) and NAF, among others.
