Tom Hood, State Society CEO, Maryland Association of CPAs
Tom Hood, CPA, CITP, CGMA, is passionate about three areas: leadership, learning and technology. Tom’s recognition and awards reflect his leadership in helping CPAs “shape their future” through his work as CEO at the Maryland Association of CPAs and an executive at the Business Learning Institute, a center for the development of leadership, strategic thinking and collaboration skills for CPAs. Tom was inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame (2015) by CPA Practice Advisor. He was named the fourth most influential leader in the CPA Profession in Accounting Today’s 2014 list of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting (his tenth time on the list). Linked-in recruited Tom as one of their Top 150 Influencers and he was named to the Top 25 Influencers in Learning by HR Examiner. Tom is a nationally recognized author, speaker and consultant, featured in the Journal of Accountancy, Accounting Today and AccountingWeb. He is also considered as a thought leader in the Association Community speaking at the DigitalNow Conference and the ASAE (American Society of Association Executives). In addition to his history as an association executive and CEO, Tom has experience as a high level executive in industry as past treasurer and CFO of Bryn Awel Corporation, a privately owned $75 million highway construction company. Tom is a graduate of Loyola College (B.A. in Accounting) and has a Master’s in Finance (Real Estate) from Johns Hopkins University and a Master’s equivalent in Information Systems from the University of Baltimore.
