The Role

We are seeking a proactive Staff Accountant to oversee daily accounting operations, including payroll, and to provide support with investment and grants accounting. In this role, the Staff Accountant will assume several of the Controller’s routine responsibilities, help ensure timely and accurate financial closes, and contribute to strengthening internal controls. This position will primarily work in QuickBooks Desktop for accounting tasks, utilize Foundant for grants management, and coordinate with investment systems such as Clearwater Analytics and Total Plan.

What You’ll Do

  • Core accounting & payroll
  • Prepare and process payroll accurately and on schedule.
  • Process accounts payable and employee reimbursements; prepare and schedule ACH payments; maintain vendor/1099 files.
  • Post cash receipts; maintain the cash position; prepare and post journal entries.
  • Perform daily and month‑end account reconciliations (bank, brokerage downloads, prepaid/deferrals, credit card).
  • Grants & Foundant
  • Coordinate grants payable from Foundant to the GL: export/import payment files, book accruals/releases, and reconcile grants expense and liabilities.
  • Partner with program staff to validate payment schedules and reporting holds before disbursement.
  • Investments support
  • Post routine investment income/activity (interest, dividends, realized gains, fees) from Clearwater files; support private investment entries and capital/distribution tracking.
  • Compliance, audit, and tax
  • Prepare workpapers and schedules for the annual audit and 990‑PF filing.
  • Maintain document retention and control evidence.
  • Process & systems
  • Maintain checklists, processes and procedures, and control narratives; recommend simplifications/automations (Excel/Power Query/Power Automate where helpful).

What You’ll Bring

  • Must‑haves
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • 2-4 years of accounting experience (nonprofit or fund accounting a plus).
    • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and Excel (pivot tables, lookups).
    • Experience with grants payable or payables at scale.
    • Strong understanding of reconciliations, journal entries, and month‑end close.
  • Nice‑to‑haves
    • Familiarity with ASC 958; prior foundation or grantmaking experience.
    • Exposure to Foundant and investment platforms (Clearwater Analytics, Total Plan).
    • CPA is a plus.

Work Setting

On‑site in downtown Oklahoma City; typical business hours with occasional flexibility.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 DOE.
