What He Has to Say
OSCPA: What has been your greatest achievement in your community or professional career so far?
Fields: I've pursued an untraditional career path, seeking opportunities to grow my skills and better serve clients. Although risk-taking is uncommon for some, I'm proud of embracing unique situations that helped me learn and develop throughout my career. From starting at a Big 4 firm and managing governmental finance for a school district to leading teams in B2B software sales and implementations and strengthening the audit department at a locally owned firm, each experience has provided a comprehensive understanding of the importance of a trusted advisor and hands-on approach for clients.
OSCPA: Who has been your greatest inspiration in your life, and why?
Fields: My parents and grandparents—they instilled a strong work ethic in me. My parents’ support throughout my life continues to motivate me to make the most of the investment and sacrifices they made. My grandmother dedicated 43 years to a local municipality, and my grandfather worked in Oklahoma's oilfields while also managing a cattle farm, which he still operates today at 80 years young. Their dedication and resilience have been my greatest inspiration.
OSCPA: What motivated you to get involved with the OSCPA?
Fields: I was an OSCPA Educational Foundation scholarship recipient during my time at UCO and received the OSCPA’s 2015 Outstanding Accounting Student award. This motivated me to engage with the OSCPA’s Young Accounting Professionals committee, where I’ve been able to engage with UCO accounting students.
OSCPA: What do you hope to accomplish in your career?
Copeland: Ultimately, I aim to establish myself as a CPA renowned in the governmental accounting sector, creating value for municipalities and governmental agencies. My goal is to assist the public sector in navigating the complexities of GASB standards and financial reporting, ensuring grant compliance in accordance with the Uniform Guidance, and becoming a valued resource for Oklahoma governments.
