Celebrating Our 2025 Trailblazers: Chris Copeland, CPA
August 12, 2025
Meet Chris Copeland, CPA
Chris Copeland, CPA, is a problem-solver, innovator, and leader. A Shawnee native and a graduate of Oklahoma State University, he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting before launching his career in the energy sector. During his decade at Continental Resources, he played a pivotal role in data analytics, internal auditing, and gas marketing, spearheading strategic projects that delivered substantial value. Now, as vice president of physical solutions at AEGIS Hedging, Chris is shaping the future of oil and gas marketing through technology and data-driven insights.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chris is committed to service and leadership in his industry and community. He serves on the OSCPA Oklahoma City Chapter board and has been actively involved in COPAS-OKC, including a term as president. His dedication to continuous learning, leadership, and service remains at the core of everything he does.
What He Has to Say
OSCPA: What has been your greatest achievement in your community or professional career so far?
Copeland: While working at Continental Resources, I had the opportunity to lead several impactful executive presentations, collaborating across disciplines with engineering, geology, operations, and land. The strategic presentations highlighted my diverse experience and the strong relationships I have built over the years. I’ve also led several forensic investigations, some resulting in significant cost recovery. I grew a lot as a professional during those experiences, and I’m especially proud of the value I contributed.
OSCPA: Who has been your greatest inspiration in your life, and why?
Copeland: My parents have been a huge inspiration to me. They taught me to serve others, stay humble, value learning, and do what’s right. They spent most of their careers in public education. Education is tough and not the most lucrative field. Despite that, they modeled the importance of making an impact without expecting anything in return.
Even in retirement, they continue to support me, especially by helping care for my children—for which I’m deeply grateful.
OSCPA: What motivated you to get involved with the OSCPA?
Copeland: Lori Ehardt, the current OSCPA Oklahoma City Chapter president, invited me to join the OSCPA and later serve on the OSCPA Oklahoma City Chapter board. I have a lot of respect for Lori and was honored she asked.
I’ve participated in many great professional organizations over the years, but the OSCPA stands out with its high-quality CPE and networking opportunities. I especially enjoyed visiting the Capitol to engage with legislators and volunteering at the Food Bank with board members. Few organizations offer that level of service and involvement.
OSCPA: What do you hope to accomplish in your career?
Copeland: I hope to solve problems, make an impact, and continuously grow as a leader and a professional. I focus on improving daily while staying present in the journey.
At AEGIS, I’m part of a forward-thinking team driving innovation in oil and gas marketing technology. I’m grateful to contribute to this work and look forward to making an impact wherever my career takes me.
